You have just bought the perfect house – is it time to adopt the PERFECT PET? If you are thinking of adopting a pet, please consider your local Humane Society. The New Rochelle Humane Society which serves 17 County communities, taking in strays from Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Hastings, Greenburgh, Hartsdale, Dobbs Ferry, City of Rye , Rye Brook, Scarsdale, Tarrytown, New Rochelle (of course), Ardsley, Eastchester, Elmsford, Hastings, Irvington, Tarrytown and Pelham Manor. I recently visited the Humane Society on a later Sunday afternoon. It was to have closed at 4 p.m., and had wanted to drop off a donation before that time. I was amazed at the energy being generated from within. There was staff, volunteers (and they always need more) on hand, people were waiting to either adopt or were waiting for their pet, there were cats strolling around outside, and in short, I was greatly impressed. So many people feel that in adopting a pet, they need to go to a pet store, an animal breeder, when in actual fact you can find that gorgeous pet at your local humane society. A lovely, caring lady. The New Rochelle Humane Society’s services include: animal rescue from 17 town and villages throughout lower Westchester, foster care program, volunteer programs, lost and found services, humane education for schools and groups, trap, neuter and return for feral cats, low cost spay/neuter certificates and their thrift shop. 50% of the funding is from either donations or from rescuing the stray cats and dogs in the 17 communities they service. There also wills, bequests, and they have many fund-raising programs. They are warm, welcoming…. Don’t be shy!
