While there was a ‘soft opening or Gallery launch’ in December, 2012, there will be an official opening of the Mahlstedt Art Gallery on January 4th, 2014. Entitled “Soltace Synergy” this week has been hectic with local reporters visiting the gallery in preparation of the Grand Opening reception this coming Saturday at 6:30 p.m. where guests will be able to mingle with the artists for a few wondrous hours.
Located at the majestic old Mahlstedt Lumber Company building at 415 Huguenot Street, New Rochelle, the new owners of the building (purchased in 2008) and gallery, Oshi and Ephraim Rabin have renovated the building beautifully to create an oasis of original art, and a wonderful hi-tech office setting for Parchem Fine & Specialty Chemicals, Marketing Technology — housed in the
same building as the gallery which makes for an excellent blend of science with
art. The entire building features exquisite art acquired by Oshi (the Executive Director of the Gallery) and Ephraim ( the CEO of Parchem) , and not to be outdone, the staff will soon have their own in-house gym! While I was visiting, the staff were having lunch (a communal affair), and it was quite obvious that they were working lunches- in a cohesive and enjoyable setting with those fantastic paintings and works of art in full view.
Oshi and Ephraim have painstakenly restored the exterior edifice of the building to re-create its hidden splendor, and the interior is an ideal setting for the creative works of artists such as Tom Costa (who favors architectural structure and meta-realism, Vince Contarino, Tom Smith and Tang-Wei Hsu.
Oshi and Ephraim have long shared a passion for science as well as art, and have been collecting works of art for years. The gallery is commerical, and the pieces of art are for sale at ‘affordable’ prices. Diane Buckley, the Gallery Director, has helped curate the art work which have been selected from artists worldwide, and there is that extra emphasis on the gallery being international.
Oshi and Ephraim have long been philanthropists, and hopefully the community can also show their appreciation to these nice people too!
It will be open five days a week by appointment, 9-5:30 p.m. and any interested art collectors should contact Diana Buckley, the Gallery Director at (914) 246-0526 diana@jam415.com.
New Rochelle is GREAT!
