There are so many great people in New Rochelle. We see and hear about them every day. Everyday people who make lives of others that little bit special just by caring. It is nice to also meet them.
I first met A.J. (Alan Cohen) of A.J.’s Burgers in 2015. I was setting up for a nearby open house, and it was super windy! A.J. came out of his restaurant to assist me with my balloons and signs! Wow! I visited his restaurant, truly enjoyed the hamburger and fries, took my family there, and then had to write a blog post.
Fast forward to 2019, and while I frequent his restaurant, I am constantly seeing A.J’s restaurant on Facebook advertising not just hamburgers ( by the way, his restaurant won the best Hudson Regional Winner for the best burger featuring our Club Burger and Habanero Burger juicy, rich, and deliciousness on homemade garlic artisan bread—two years in a row—2012 & 2013), but also his acclaimed and award winning “Shrimp Bisque”. A.J. also created a special dish for Mariano Rivera which he named ” Mariano Rivera’s Favorite Lobster & Shrimp Positano” which is lobster and shrimp in a garlic-butter sauce with arugula and fresh tomatoes over linguine. A.J. seems to be everywhere! A.J. recently participated in a “Feeding Westchester” event (“An Evening in Good Taste”), and then there Alan was hosting a cooking session with members from the New Rochelle’s Boys and Girls Club (fantastic!), and yet on another evening, there he was cooking in Pelham with more young people. He has been featured on television (“Chopped”) and on News Channel 12.
If you would like A.J. to cater a party of any kind, he is available! I saw him the other year at the Humane Society of Westchester when they had their annual dog washing fund raising event. The hamburgers were just as delicious there as they would be in his restaurant. Juicy, fresh and yummy!
SO, since it has been 4 years since I last posted a blog post about the restaurant, and in seeing all of those wonderful photos and videos on Facebook, I felt compelled to pop over today to taste a few items on the menu.
I ordered the Shrimp Bisque which is described as including a kick of pepper, and including farm raised shrimp and cream. It was delicious, and the portion so large, I am ashamed to admit I did not have much room for my main course of the Shrimp Fra Diavolo! A very generous portion, and delicious too. I took it home for my older son (smile!) who greatly enjoyed it.
I was also very pleasantly surprised to receive a portion of orange and vanilla ice cream ‘ for my palate’ while I was waiting for the check! I tasted for the purpose of this blog but it was very flavorful also.
If you haven’t visited yet, I would recommend you pop in for lunch or dinner.. You will love it!
