“We have exciting news to share. An important part of our mission statement has always been the preservation of New Rochelle’s rich history. We strive not only to preserve documents and historical artifacts but significant historical buildings as well.
We recently learned that the Thomas Paine Memorial Building was in danger of being sold without the protection of Landmark designation by the City of New Rochelle. This oversight could have led to the demolition of this important piece of New Rochelle’s history.
With the help of a group of concerned citizens, Council Member Sara Kaye and City Historian Barbara Davis, the City’s Landmark designation is a reality. However, Landmark Status is only the beginning. Phase one – Landmark Status accomplished ! Phase two – Volunteers needed to save the Memorial Building for educational and community uses and promote Paine’s legacy. Contact the Committee to Save the Thomas Paine Memorial Building today to volunteer and help save a piece of New Rochelle history! ”
