Labor Day in the Historic District!

I had to write down a few thoughts from this year’s Labor Day Weekend. I was on my way to water the plants at my wonderful listing located at 123 Beaufort Place in New Rochelle’s Historic District, and the smells and sounds were simply wonderful!

I simply love New Rochelle and the surrounding area. I had treated myself (why not!) to a spicy lobster dish with ginger and scallion sauce from Larchmont’s Hunan Garden (most of the towns are so close to each other), and so it was quite easy to pop by my listing! As I exited my car, I was assailed by a wonderful barbecue aroma from the neighbors’ yards, great music was playing in someone’s backyard, and I heard the sound of a neighbor teaching his son hockey moves in their backyard. A community!

Rochelle Heights is great. I have written on several occasions about the area, and I can’t help but write again. There is a wonderful tennis court with 2 red clay courts a short distance away off Hamilton Avenue. For just $450 for the season you can join the New Rochelle Heights Racquet Club (and discounted to $375 should you join prior to April 1st of each year. Not only that but should you reside in the area, then you can get a $25 discount towards the New Rochelle Heights Neighborhood Association. The fee each year is $250 and while not a mandatory fee, the fee goes towards wonderful events such as a floral sale in the spring, lighting the Christmas Tree in December, pot luck dinners (I have heard!), and the New Rochelle Turkey Trot always starts on Hamilton Avenue each Thanksgiving Day ( proud to be a sponsor) which is the only race in the area on that day, and raises so much money each year for local charities. Michael Conlon of “The Finish Line” is the simply organizer extraordinaire each year and of course he lives in the Historic District!

New Rochelle is just 30 minutes from New York City, offer the Amtrak train which goes to Boston (in just under 4 hours!) and Washington, D.C.
