Mr. Marc Jerome, the Chairperson of the New Rochelle BID program, and Executive Vice President of Munroe College addressed a group of area Realtors recently about the BID Program. It was held in the Pastry Lab at Munroe College. The setting was very à propos. The college is now nearly 80 years young (originating in 1933) and having grown from 1-33 buildings with a student enrollment of approximately 7000 students (around 750 or so in New Rochelle and originating from about 50 countries).
The school is dynamic, offering a multitude of sports programs such as football, soccer, JV soccer, cross country , track and field, basketball, JV basketball, baseball, JV baseball, volleyball, JV volleyball and softball. The college also believes in giving back to the community, and recently donated $2000 to our local Boys and Girls Clubs. ” As Quay Watkins, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs noted ” Munroe College provides ” programs that we couldn’t run without their assistance.” Currently, an after-school tutoring and mentoring program is staffed primarily by Monroe College work-study students. Jerome added that, “Although Monroe is now comprised of students from more than 50 countries and 20 states, as our enrollment has grown to more than 7,000, we have never lost sight of our founders’ commitment to giving students, especially from the Tri-State region, access to an affordable, quality education characterized by a lot of individualized attention. Just like the Boys & Girls Club, our heart and soul are still very local.”
Of great note, Munroe College now utilizes the sports arena in the New Roc Center which used to house the ice hockey rink.
New Rochelle is GREAT!
