Truly one of THE most highly anticipated events of the fall. Each year, we can all smile as we see the young (and their fun loving parents) get dressed up in all kinds of regalia/costumes for the annual Larchmont Ragamuffin Parade. A much awaited event, and it follows the 5th Annual Scarecrow Festival ( entries ended on October 3rd) but the scary scarecrow festival runs on October 17th -the 19th outside of the Larchmont Library.
Since the Ragamuffin parade commences at 1 p.m when the revelers parade down Larchmont Avenue to the Fire Department, Julia B. Fee wanted to invite all of the “Ragamuffins” into their ‘haunted house’ (1946 Palmer Avenue, Larchmont) rain or shine for some fun… Doors will be open at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. when the parade starts.
Of course, the doors are always open (in business hours) for any real estate related questions. We will not scare you!

It is always fun to watch some of the race each year. I decided this year not to stand at the start but rather as the race started, a little further down the trail.. a neighbor was playing the Rocky theme (always inspiring), and the runners cheered as they raced by. My neighbor mentioned that when he had a marathon years ago, he had heard it as he was crossing a bridge,and he enjoyed it so much, and this was payback to his the neighborhood!
I was thrilled to see some friends on their trek (Sarah, Nina, Rhiannon and Russell)..

A little late in posting, but I still wanted to commemorate the event with my own blog post.. (hey, real estate got in the way!).. I arrived late as I was showing some beautiful homes in the Manor.. but another story.. SO, when I did finally arrive after 3 p.m., the street was crowded, everyone was truly enjoying themselves, and it was definitely an event to remember.. but isn’t that what we think of Larchmont? A beautiful area that is always memorable?
There was a pie eating contest, delicious food being sold everywhere (always a long line by the Walter’s Van!), non-stop music, beautiful artwork to both enjoy and purchase, a booth for our local Police Department, our Fire Department was selling T-Shirts for charity and, of course, it was simply a wonderful event in which to see old and new friends! Most importantly, the little ones were able to climb on board all of the local utility trucks (Postal truck, sanitation truck, fire engine, bulldozer nicely decorated.. . They LOVED it!
It was held on Larchmont Avenue by the Firehouse, and was in full throttle from 1-4 p.m!
Thursday, September 24th 5-7 p.m. marked the third and last of the three Date Night events Carolyn Fugere, the President of the Larchmont Chamber of Commerce, had worked so industriously and tirelessly to create the successes they undoubtedly were. The idea was originated to help further promote the local businesses, creating more sales, and just making it a wonderful event (and evening) for all. Balloons were on display outside of those stores who were participating, and there were raffles offered for participating. A win win for all.
The good news is, if you were not able to make “Date Night” you can still frequent these wonderful stores, restaurants and partake in the special services offered.

Hounds on the Sound. For the past few years, this wonderful event has been held in New Rochelle. It is a coordinated event, jointly run by both the New Rochelle Humane Society and Pet Rescue. It was devised to both have fun, to proudly walk our pooches, and to also raise much needed funds.

I am embarrassed… I was driving by Walter’s and miracle upon miracles, there was no long line… and my tummy cried out “No brekkies/no lunch”… (it was 11:10 am….- hey no comments..). SO, I had to stop by and purchase some nutrition (I heard they dip their delicious hot dogs in butter.. oh my!) for myself and my office brethren (all hardworking and those phones do not stop ringing – it is Sotheby’s after all!)…
What was the harm in a hot dog (well unfortunately who can eat only one… but another story…)..
If you live in the area of 10543, then you have heard of the legendary “Walter’s.” It might be a roadside “store” (although there are benches in the rear of the building), but the food is highly sought-after, and I must admit, the hot dogs are crispy (cut in half), the buns are warmed, and I do not know how to describe it, but it all “goes down well.”
I can recall going to a walk- thru prior to a closing, and I took my client to a tasting from Walter’s with double hot dogs on a bun, curly fries and a coke… He loved it! The building itself is a free standing, copper roofed Pagoda styled property… sounds different, but so is the fare. The original owner, Walter Warrington, invented his split style hot dog with his own homemade mustard cooking mode in 1919, built the pagoda styled stand in 1928, and it was declared a historical landmark in 1991.
The stand has been represented by four generations of Warringtons…. and I am sure enjoyed by four generations of local residents too! Serving 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m, Monday through Saturday, and 11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
